BURY COLLEGE CELEBRATES PARTNERSHIP WITH PIMHOLE COMMUNITY FARM

Bury College Celebrates Partnership with Pimhole Community Farm

Bury College’s partnership with Pimhole Community Farm continues to grow as renovation work is completed at one of Bury’s most loved family attractions.

The Bury Community Farm has welcomed a range of new facilities including a fully furnished classroom, fitted with an interactive TV, new toilets, security cameras, security and fire alarm. An existing cabin has also been replaced with a fully furnished cabin which incorporates a eating/drinking area, a fridge, washing machine /dryer and lockers.

Bury College Animal Care students are developing their animal skills as they carry out essential work at the Bury farm. Students are enjoying pitching in at Pimhole Community Farm where they are undertaking a range of roles including the general management of the farm, learning about the science of the animals and managing the stock rotation.

Alongside their farm duties, students are also challenged to manage other responsibilities such as feeding and grooming yard and field animals. These animals include sheep, bulls, alpacas, rabbits, ex-battery hens, horses, roosters, ponies, donkeys, goats, pigs and budgies.

Bury College Animal Care student Curtis Darbyshire has progressed through the levels at Bury College having started on the Level 2 Animal Care course and successfully moving onto the Level 3 Diploma. Over the past three years, Curtis has seen great differences made to the farm.

The former Parrenthorn High School pupil said, “I really enjoy working on Pimhole Community farm. The resources are brilliant but I have seen great improvements over the past few months.”

Joanne McKenzie, Director of Health, Care, Education and Access said, "We are proud of our ongoing partnership with Pimhole Community Farm and the opportunities that we can offer learners to gain hands-on practical experiences. The new resources and equipment will help to further develop the skills of the students and the overall learner experience. We really appreciate the support that Pimhole Community Farm and Stuart have given to us in this partnership.”
