ASPIRING APPRENTICES LEAD THE WAY IN SECURITY SYSTEMS

Security System experts shared best practice with a group of Bury College apprentices as they delivered high quality, industry related masterclasses.

Mike Dunn, Managing Director of Safecell Security Ltd, based in Bury, visited Bury College to provide apprentices with a bespoke workshop introduction to fault finding. The masterclass, which was delivered in one of the Bury College industry standard workshops, covered areas such as identifying faults in multi-meters and main control panels.

The session provided the apprentices with a hands-on practical experience and helped further develop their skills and knowledge.

Mike said of the session, “Throughout the workshop the apprentices were enthusiastic and showed an interest in developing skills which were purely practical. We also incorporated a theory test at the end of day for the learners to demonstrate what they had learnt during the day. This was a great opportunity for the apprentices to cover specific areas of security systems in a controlled environment.”

Jack Robinson is half way through his two-year apprenticeship and is due to complete in January 2019. The former Bury Church of England pupil is completing his apprenticeship at Safecell Security Ltd.

19-year-old Jack said, “The workshop was good and I enjoyed having the opportunity to cover particular areas in more depth.”

Michael Johnston, Bury College Learning and Skills Coach, added, “The masterclass covered electronic principles and fixing and managing faults. The apprentices were engaged throughout and this was a great opportunity for them to explore new areas.”
