Performing Arts Q&A with Industry Renowned Director

A leading North West director visited Bury College Performing Arts department to offer students an access all areas pass to a working theatre production.

Ben Occhipinti, Associate Director of the Octagon Theatre Bolton, delivered a question and answer session where learners were invited to ask him questions about his latest production of A Christmas Carol. The production is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens Christmas classic and is running up until January 2018.

Bury College Performing Arts students were given the opportunity to watch the production before interviewing Ben about why he chose to direct the production the way he did, how he made certain decisions and how he handled criticism.

Ben said, “It is amazing for me to have the opportunity to talk to our audience and chat to them about the production. I also really enjoyed offering my personal and professional advice to the students.”

During the question and answer session, Ben shared his experiences of theatre and how he directed a production. He was also encouraged the students to continue with their studies and to put hard-work, passion and commitment into everything that they do.

Level 3 Performing Arts student Jouko Väisänen, a former Bury Church of England School pupil said of the session, “Today was great as I learnt a lot about how the industry works and how to work with different directors. I would like to work in the theatre so today was a real eye-opener.”
