CHANNEL 4 WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY FOR AMBITIOUS STUDENT
A Bury College Business student was invited to one of the UKs top television broadcaster where he enjoyed a week long work experience placement.
18 year old Samuel Adedokun travelled to London to undertake an exciting work experience opportunity at Channel 4. Samuel applied for the placement himself through the 4Talent scheme, an application process which gives opportunities to individuals who show great career passion and drive.
Whilst at Channel 4, which is home to some of Britain’s much loved television programmes including Gogglebox, Dispatches and First Dates, Samuel was assigned to the Finance department. Whilst he was there he completed sessions on Human Resources, Marketing and Communication, Technology, Sales, Procurements, Accounts Receivables, Royalties, 4Creative, Ratings, Balance Sheet review, Investments, Production Finance, Content Finance, Film Finance, and Tax.
The trip to London, which was paid for by Channel 4, was also a cultural trip for Samuel who spent time visiting the capital’s famous landmarks including Bucking Palace and the 95-story skyscraper building The Shard. The former The Co-operative Academy of Manchester pupil enjoyed immersing himself into city life and experiencing what life would be like living and working in the capital.
The second year BTEC Extended Diploma in Business student, who was delighted to be given this unique opportunity, said, “I was ecstatic when I received the email to say I had been given the work experience position! As a young child I went to Drama school so to have the opportunity to combine my passion of acting with my love for finance was so exciting.”
During the work experience, Samuel, who lives in Blackley, enjoyed putting the knowledge he had learnt in the classroom into practice. Samuel believes the finance and marketing modules he has completed on his Bury College course helped him.
Samuel added, “We discussed in great detail about target market audience and different aspects of accounting which I felt familiar with. My personal highlight was working on a balance sheet and making sure all the figures added up.”
Samuel is currently in the process of applying to university to study International Business and has already received several offers.
