STUDENTS SUPPORT SANTA SPECIAL INITIATIVE
A group of generous students are looking forward to an exciting festive trip as a special reward from East Lancashire Railway.
Foundation Studies students supported the popular tourist attraction with their Santa Specials initiative, where they packed bags of presents for visitors. Over a 12 week period, students worked together to pack teddy bears, painting packs and other fun activities. This volunteering initiative will go towards their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
As a thank you for their hard work and support, the students and staff were invited on board one of the Santa Special trains where they enjoyed a 90 minute steam train ride between Bury and Rawtenstall. Students were also treated to a traditional brass band, magician, a present from Santa and his elves and an activity pack.
Foundation Studies student Aidan Beharrell said, “It was great to all work together as a team and I now have more confidence.”
East Lancashire Railway Chairman, Mike Kelly, said: “On behalf of the railway, I would like to thank the Bury College students for helping us prepare for our popular Santa Specials event. The support they have provided over the past twelve weeks has been invaluable and they should be commended for their efforts. We hope they enjoyed their Santa Specials experience and have a fantastic Christmas – they really do deserve it!”
