Applied Science is a work-related qualification that focuses on the development of practical skills and underpinning knowledge in the Science industry . The course will appeal to students who enjoy studying Science through practical work such as completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations.

During your first year you will study:

Principles and applications of science I

Practical scientific procedures and techniques

Science investigation skills

Laboratory techniques and their application

Physiology of human body systems

Electrical circuits and their application

Microbiology and microbiological techniques

During your second year you will study:

Principles and applications of science II

Investigative project

Contemporary issues in science

Applications of inorganic chemistry

Applications of organic chemistry

Medical physics applications

How you will be assessed:

  • 30% examination
  • 70% coursework

For Level 3 Applied Science: 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (including Maths, English Language and either Combined Science or 2 separate Sciences)
