Our specialist Engineering qualifications are for those who wish to pursue a career in the diverse world of Engineering. These courses are designed to provide you with a good knowledge and understanding of Engineering whilst developing the skills required to prepare you for employment or progression into further study. Engineering Level 3 is a specialist qualification for students who wish to pursue a career or higher education route in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Engineering.

The topics studied on this course are:

  • Engineering and environmental health and safety (exam)
  • Engineering mathematics
  • Further engineering science
  • Engineering communications
  • Advanced engineering project
  • Programmable logic controllers
  • Producing sheet metal fabrications

This programme includes a 45-day (315 hour) industry placement to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to progress into employment within the sector.

How you will be assessed:

  • Online exam
  • Practical assessments
  • In-class assessments
  • Coursework

You have the unique opportunity to progress onto the Engineering HNC course at Bury College University Centre and/or progress into careers including:

  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Civil Engineer
  • Engineering Technician
  • Maintenance Engineer
  • Systems Engineer
  • Design Engineer

Personal Protective Equipment will need to be purchased at enrolment at a cost of £27, you will also need to purchase a pair of steel toe-capped safety boots.  Lockers are available to hire for the year by paying a refundable deposit of £10 at enrolment.  There will also be study visits that you are required to contribute to.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

For Level 3 Engineering Technologies: 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (including Maths, English Language and Science) OR GCSE 9-4 in Maths, English Language & Science plus a Merit on the Level 2 Engineering Course.
