Overview of the Course

You will learn how to help registered practitioners to deliver healthcare services to adult patients or children and young people. Accordingly, you will become proficient at carrying out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks that are required in a healthcare setting. Training will equip you to follow standards, policies and protocols in order to provide high quality, compassionate healthcare to the best of your ability.

As a Healthcare Practitioner it is essential to treat people with dignity, to respect an individual's diversity, beliefs, culture, needs, values, privacy and preferences, and to show respect for those you work with but have the courage to challenge any areas of concern.

What are the entry requirements?

5 GCSE passes at grade 9-4 including maths, English and Core and Additional Science.

How long is the course and when can I start?

This course will start in September and you will study for two years to achieve the full qualification.

How is the course structured and how will I be assessed?

You will develop your knowledge and understanding in all the following areas:

Depending on the pathway you choose you will study:

Supporting the Adult Nursing Team

  • Assist the adult nursing team with clinical tasks
  • Support individuals to meet activities of daily living
  • Assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions

Supporting the Care of Children and Young People

  • Assist with clinical tasks and treatment for Children and Young People (CYP)
  • Provide care and support to CYP before, during and after clinical or therapeutic procedures
  • Support parents, families and carers to meet the needs of the CYP

You will sit an externally-set exam at the end of each academic year to test your understanding of the subject. You will also undertake a skill-assessment to demonstrate your competency skills. Whilst on work placement, you will be set a project by your employer that you must successfully complete to demonstrate your overall breadth of learning.

What employability skills will I develop on this course?

This brand-new qualification has been developed in collaboration with employers to ensure that what you are learning meets the needs of the industry. You will combine the benefits of practical and theory-based learning to generate the knowledge and experience needed for skilled employment or further training.

Work experience

Your T Level will include an industry placement with an employer to develop the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. Bury College will support students in finding relevant work placements. These will last a minimum of 315 hours and average 350 hours (around 45 days). Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a combination of the two. On placement you may work in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers in a range of care settings, such as hospitals, nursing or care homes, GP surgeries, community, health or day care units, hospices, charities or other voluntary organisations.
