This course is a broad-based practical business qualification which is intended for those who are seeking an alternative to a Foundation Degree or Degree and who wish to combine study and part-time work.

This high-quality programme is centred around project management and will allow you to gain the specific knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to successfully manage and lead the work of a team. Achieving this higher-level qualification could support you to thrive in a range of sectors which have a demand for project managers including construction, manufacturing, finance and insurance, management and professional services and information services.

During this course you will explore, challenge and develop the following:

Key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in your chosen business sector.
Understanding of specialist areas e.g. the business environment, business ethics, managing financial resources, organisational behaviour, marketing principles, human resource management, advertising and promotion in business management, costing and budgeting.
Vocational opportunities within the business sectors.
Individual research to inform your own professional business practice and career choice.
Knowledge of wider self-employment skills e.g. intellectual property, tax, law, national insurance, accountancy, networking, advertising.
English, Maths and IT skills through the vocational assignments.
Employability skills e.g. team building, leadership, advocacy, self-management, organisation, presentation, peer support as well as adaptability and problem-solving.

You will also study a range of core and optional units and carry out independent study.

You will be assessed via a range of written and practical assessment methods which include practical role-plays, reports, presentations and work place simulations.

This course is delivered by lecturers who have relevant business experience. The team may be complemented by guest speakers who are also working within the related industry.

Upon completion of this qualification, you may progress onto employment in a range of roles including a trainee manager role for a retail outlet, department leader and work in a range of industries including insurance, finance, sales and marketing.

You may also progress onto further study including the BTEC Level 5, HND in Business or other Level 5 pathways. To progress from the BTEC Level 4 HNC to the BTEC Level 5 HND you will need to successfully complete your BTEC Level 4 HNC. Progression to the BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma at Bury College University Centre is subject to validation and conditional on group sizes being educationally and/or economically viable.

There is also the option to progress onto a relevant degree course at year 1 or 2. Please note that this depends on the provider and your work presented at interview.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

48 UCAS points or equivalent in a Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC, UAL, Access to HE Diploma or two A-levels. You should also have five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C) including English and Maths or demonstrated competency at Level 2 or above. You will be required to attend an interview and/or assessment. If you do not have the formal entry requirements but have relevant work experience or an alternative qualification you may still be eligible for the course.
