Our Carpentry and Joinery courses provide you with an opportunity to progress through the levels and develop advanced skills, underpinning knowledge and associated practical skills which are expected of a Site Carpenter within the construction industry.

You will complete a range of practical projects, work experience placements and develop your skills and knowledge through studying a wide range of subjects.

The topics studied on this course are:

  • Analysing technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Analysing the construction industry and built environment
  • Setting up and operating cutting and shaping machinery
  • Erecting complex structural carcassing components
  • Installing and maintaining nonstructural and structural components

This programme is assessed through end of year synoptic assessments and theory based exams. Students are provided with a scenario, for which they need to plan, complete, and evaluate a range of practical tasks.

  • Wood Machinist

You are required to purchase PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) that you must wear in all practical sessions; this will include a hi-visibility vest, a pair of gloves and safety goggles, all available to purchase from college at enrolment. In addition, you will also need to purchase a pair of steel toe capped boots.

For Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery: Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery plus 3 GCSEs at grade 9-3 (including Maths and English Language)
