Certificate in Education (Level 5 Cert Ed)

This course is ideal for you if you have worked in industry for a long period of time with no prior teaching experience and are aspiring to go into teaching.

Course Overview:

This is a teacher training course for non-graduates who wish to teach in the post-compulsory sector of education. This includes: adult and community education, further education, sixth form colleges, universities, the prison and probation services, pre-employment training and work-based learning. Your teaching specialism will depend on the qualifications you already have. You will need a Level 3 qualification related to the area you wish to teach in as well as industry experience. As part of your studies you will be required to carry out a teaching placement that may involve daytime or evening teaching or both. 

Entry Requirements:

This course requires a DBS clearance and a health declaration before enrolment. If English is not your first language you will need a recognised English Language qualification at the appropriate level for this course e.g. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. There are also specific requirements outlined below.

You must have the highest vocational qualification relevant to the subject area you wish to teach in such as National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 or NVQ Level 4 or Higher National Diploma (HND). You should hold one of the following qualifications in a subject relevant to the proposed teaching subject: HND/HNC, CGLI advanced craft certificate; OCR advanced qualifications; NVQ Level 3; technical/commercial qualifications.

Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Level 6 PGCE)

This course is for you if you are currently working as a teacher or trainer or within the post-14 lifelong learning sector, such as further education, sixth forms and adult learning and need a recognised teaching qualification to progress your career.

Course Overview:

This is a teacher training course for graduates who wish to teach in the post-compulsory sector of education. This includes: adult and community education, sixth form colleges, universities, the prison and probation services, pre-employment training and work-based learning. This will also qualify graduates to teach individuals aged 14 plus in high schools. Your teaching specialism will depend on the qualifications you already have. As part of your studies you will be required to carry out a teaching placement that may include daytime or evening teaching or both.

Entry Requirements:

In order to study this course you must already have a degree in a subject that is relevant to the area in which you teach in. In addition to this the course requires a DBS clearance and a health declaration before enrolment. If English is not your first language you will need a recognised English Language qualification at the appropriate level for this course e.g. IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
