The Level 4 units lay the foundations of learning by providing a specialised introduction to coaching in the UK landscape and different coaching functions. This develops and strengthens core skills while preparing you for Level 5 or to enter employment with the qualities necessary for job roles that require some personal responsibility. You will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios.

You will be involved in vocational activities that help to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for competence) and transferable skills. You will also develop a range of transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace. By the end of Level 4, you will have sound knowledge of the concepts of coaching in the UK. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas in Sport and Exercise Science.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of Sport and Exercise Science. You will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. You will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. You will also be adaptable and flexible in your approach to Sport and Exercise Science, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

  • Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Professional Skills (Pearson Set)
  • Coaching Practice and Skill Development
  • Training, Fitness and Testing
  • Lifestyle Coaching
  • Community Coaching

You will be assessed in a range of different ways from written reports, presentations, portfolio and practical observations depending on the unit.

This course has been designed with the future workforce in mind. This course will develop your employability skills to aid your transition into employment or higher education. This will be supported with trips and visits to develop the required skills to be successful in the field of sport. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a Level 2 Gym Instructor, Level 3 Personal Trainer or Sport Massage Therapist qualification. Please note, students will need to pay for these additional qualifications.

Successful completion of Community Coaching for England HNC HTQ at Bury College University Centre will guarantee you an offer of a place on the second year of a specified course at UA92. Named specified courses are BA (Hons) Physical Education and BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Science. Please note that entry onto the second year of Sport and Exercise Science course is subject to successful completion of the UA92 bridging course in Biomechanics.

48-64 UCAS points from a full Level 3 qualification such as BTEC, A Level or an Access course in Sport. GCSE English and Maths at grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent. We may admit applicants who do not have a Level 3 qualification in an appropriate area but who hold alternative qualifications and/or experience demonstrating appropriate knowledge and skills at Level 3.

The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.

Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (25%), January (25%) and April (50%).

Course Fee: £8,250.00 per year
