At Bury College, we provide a wide range of support to help you succeed on your course and make the most of your time at College.
Our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team is experienced in supporting students with a broad range of learning difficulties and disabilities. We take an anticipatory approach, meaning we focus on meeting individual needs and removing barriers to learning, rather than relying on a formal diagnosis.
All support provided is tailored to you and your needs. One of our specialist SEND Advisory Tutors will carry out a thorough initial assessment with you to identify your strengths, any support needs you may have, and the most effective ways we can help you achieve your goals.
Transition visits – These visits give you the opportunity to explore the College before enrolling, helping you to feel confident and prepared for your next step. You will be able to visit the areas where you will be studying, meet key members of staff from your chosen department, and ask any questions you may have.
Personalised Learning Centre – The Personalised Learning Centre is a central hub for SEND support and is staffed throughout the day by learning support specialists. It provides a safe, welcoming, and accessible space where you can complete your work, access support, or take a short break when needed.
Quiet rooms – We have two quiet rooms on campus which offer a calm and safe space if you need time out, support with emotional regulation, or somewhere quieter to spend your free time away from busy areas of the College.
Education Support Workers – Our experienced Education Support Workers provide in-class support for students who need additional help. They work closely with you to support your learning, progress on your course, and achievement of your personalised SMART targets, in line with the outcomes set out in your Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Enrichment and clubs – A wide range of exciting and inclusive enrichment opportunities is available to all learners at Bury College. These include Art Club, Book Club, Chess Club, Badminton, Football, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Wellbeing support – Our Wellbeing Advisor offers regular drop-in sessions where you can access support for your mental health and wellbeing. One-to-one appointments are also available for more personalised support.
Exam access arrangements – Our specialist Exam Access Arrangements Tutor will work with you to identify and put in place any exam access arrangements you may need. If you had arrangements at school, please let the ALS team know, as we can support you in gathering the required evidence from your current or previous school.
If you would like further information, one of our dedicated team members is happy to support you. Please email us at SEND@burycollege.ac.uk, or alternatively, you can call us on 0161 280 8442.
