The Prospects Hair and Beauty Course helps you develop the practical skills, personal qualities, and professional behaviours needed for success in the hair and beauty industry. It supports progression onto Level 1 and Level 2 Hair and Beauty programmes or into employment. The main aim is to help you build new skills, grow in confidence, improve your learning potential, and raise your aspirations while making informed choices about your future career and progression pathways.
The Hair and Beauty Pathway will provide you with a basic introduction to the occupational areas within the hair and beauty industry including shampooing and conditioning hair, basic hair styling, basic nail art, basic manicure and pedicure. The course will provide you with an insight into the industry, organisations and job roles. You will develop your skills and knowledge by completing written assignments in the computer rooms, studying health and safety and carrying out basic practical assessments on internal clients. You will also complete study units to improve your personal and social skills. The course is designed to support you to develop the skills to progress onto a Level 1 course in Hair and Beauty.
Assessment is carried out through a range of methods, including written assignments, practical salon activities, role play, presentations, group discussions and digital tasks. You will also study English and Maths, take part in work placements, and complete units designed to develop your employability, personal, and social skills.
You will be required to purchase the appropriate salon uniform and professional footwear for practical workshop sessions. You may also be asked to contribute towards the cost of curriculum related trips, visits, and enrichment activities that support your learning and industry experience.
