Learners develop a strong foundation of transferable employability skills alongside technical IT competence. The main employability skills developed include:

• Digital Literacy & IT Proficiency – Confident use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook in a workplace context.
• Organisation & Time Management – File management, meeting assessment deadlines, structured document creation.
• Communication Skills – Producing professional documents (CVs, covering letters), clear written communication, and delivering presentations.
• Numeracy & Analytical Skills – Using formulas, interpreting data, creating charts, and making data-driven decisions.
• Problem Solving – Applying formulas, troubleshooting formatting issues, refining presentations.
• Teamwork & Professional Conduct – Peer feedback, collaborative tasks, respectful and inclusive communication (EDI & workplace ethics).
• Self-Management & Career Awareness – Reflecting on progress, understanding employer expectations, researching job roles and salaries.

Overall, the course equips learners with practical, workplace-ready digital skills while strengthening communication, numeracy, and professional behaviours essential for employment or further study

A good command of the English language, both written and verbally, preferably at level 1 qualification. It is necessary to have a certain degree of existing IT skills, for example, a level 1 qualification or equivalent in experience. Students are invited to complete assessment before starting the course.

Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:

• Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
• Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
• Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
• Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course
• Your eligibility for a free course will be assessed and confirmed at enrolment.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN

Many of our adult learners pay for their Level 3 and above courses with an Advanced Learner Loan. If a loan is available this is indicated in the course details. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there are no credit checks. You only need to start paying back your Advanced Learner Loan when you are earning more than £25,000 per year.
