Students studying Design & Development will discover the fundamentals of Engineering within the first year of the course. You will gain a sound understanding of fundamental principles such as Mechanical Principles, Engineering Maths and Electrical Principles before progressing to specialist Engineering subjects.

This will ensure you have developed the skills needed to practically apply your knowledge in the second year of the course where units the units of study become more specific to your chosen pathway and have clear links to the occupational competency required in the workplace.

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the following core ‘Engineering principles’:

  • Working within the engineering and manufacturing sectors
  • Engineering representations
  • Essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing
  • Essential science for engineering and manufacturing
  • Materials and their properties
  • Mechanical principles
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Mechatronics

You have the opportunity to progress onto the Engineering HNC course at Bury College University Centre and/or progress into careers including:

  • Mechancial Engineer
  • Civil Engineer

For T Level Engineering and Manufacturing, Design and Development: 5 or more GCSEs at grade 9-4 (including Maths grade 9-5, English Language grade 9-4 and Combined Science OR seperate Sciences grades 9-5)
