Ismail, a former Bury College Accounting Apprentice, recently returned to the college to share his remarkable learning journey with current learners.

A story of growth and determination

Having moved to the UK with no formal educational background, Ismail first enrolled as an adult learner on Maths and English courses at Bury College.

From there, he delved into the world of accounting, starting with Level 1 and 2 adult courses, before advancing to the Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship and then the Professional Accounting Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship.

For Ismail, each step in his learning journey brought new skills and greater confidence.

“My Apprenticeships were great for me. Not only did they allow me to develop my subject knowledge, but also other skills that I needed, such as communication skills. This helped me prosper and by the end of my Apprenticeships, I was more confident and a better communicator.”, he commented.

Since completing his studies at Bury College, Ismail has secured an accounting role and is now undertaking a degree-level Apprenticeship to further develop his career.

When Ismail returned to the college to talk to current learners about his experience, he offered valuable advice and encouraged others to make the most of their own Apprenticeship opportunities.

“Every teacher I had during my time at Bury College was great and helpful. The college has all the resources you need to succeed. I would not be in my current position without my Apprenticeships.”, he added.
