Bury College proudly welcomed families, friends, and members of the local community to its annual Art and Design Exhibition, celebrating the creativity, talent, and achievements of students across a range of creative courses.

The annual exhibition displayed an impressive collection of work from students across Bury College's Art, Design and Creative Media courses. Featuring photography, graphic design, games art and mixed media installations, the exhibition highlighted the technical skills, creativity and personal development students have achieved throughout the year. Many projects explored contemporary themes including sustainability, artificial intelligence, social media, and identity, demonstrating the power of creative practice to inspire conversation and challenge perspectives.

The exhibition provided students with the opportunity to present their work in a professional setting, celebrating both their creative achievements and the progress they have made throughout the academic year.

Exploring ideas through creativity

Many of the projects on display encouraged visitors to think differently about the world around them.

Level 3 Art and Design student, Violet, created a piece examining the impact of artificial intelligence, using recycled materials to reinforce themes of sustainability.

“I wanted to create a piece that educates people on the negatives of AI. As part of the piece, I’ve reused materials for sustainability, and I aimed to get people thinking about AI and the negatives around using it.”

Meanwhile, fellow Level 3 Art and Design student Yousr explored the effects of unrealistic beauty standards and social media pressures through a collection of visual works designed to promote self-confidence and self-acceptance.

"My final piece was designed to raise awareness of the effects of fake beauty online, and that people should believe in themselves more and their natural beauty."

Yousr's work featured a collection of visual pieces, including posters and a sculptural mask, exploring the pressures created by social media and cosmetic surgery.

Projects such as these highlighted how students are using creative practice not only to develop technical skills, but also to engage with contemporary issues and communicate powerful messages.

Finding themselves and finding their future

The exhibition also gave students the chance to reflect on their creative journeys and the skills they have developed during their time at college.

For Jack, the opportunity to experiment with different creative disciplines helped him discover a passion for graphic design. His final project, a youth basketball magazine inspired by the UK basketball scene, combined his interests in sport, photography, and publishing.

“On the course I’ve done lots of different things, I tried games design and in the second year I learnt about graphic design, and I’ve found out this is what I enjoy. The best bit has been finding out what I like and so what I want to do after college.”

Students also spoke positively about the support they received from tutors and the confidence they have gained throughout their studies. Reflecting on her journey from Level 2 to Level 3 Art and Design, Amy said:

“My tutors have given me lots of support in improving my art and helping me find my pathway, which is games design.”

Amy's experience reflects the opportunities available within the College's creative curriculum, with many students continuing to higher education or specialist creative careers. She is now preparing to study Games Art at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Celebrating achievement

The Art and Design Exhibition remains a highlight of the academic calendar, providing students with a professional platform to display their work and celebrate their achievements with family, friends, and the wider community.

The exhibition demonstrated not only the exceptional talent of Bury College's creative students, but also the confidence, resilience, and ambition they have developed throughout their studies as they prepare to take their next steps in education, employment, and the creative industries.
