Engineering covers a wide range of disciplines – anything from rockets to mobile phones and even hip replacements! Engineering is not just about ‘fixing things’ it is about understanding how and why things work.
This is a specialist qualification which can be studied as part of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) study programme to provide a progression pathway, which develops a set of specialist skills and competences required for working in the Engineering sector.
You will benefit from working in a dedicated Engineering Centre equipped with the latest industry technology, purpose-built labs and an engineering workshop . You will be able to interpret and produce engineering drawings, create models of products, edit and modify these, and explore materials and their properties.
Qualification studied:
- BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering
- A-level equivalent to be taken as part of an A-level Study Programme
Topics you will study:
- Engineering principles
- Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team
- Engineering product design and manufacture
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) in engineering
Assessment
is 58% exam and 42% coursework.
Engineering career opportunities increasingly focus on working with innovative technology and are exceptionally diverse. Roles exist in research, design, simulation, testing and production and there are many sectors to choose from including:
- Aerospace
- Renewables
- Automotive
- Mechanical
- Robotics
- Prosthetics
There
may be additional costs for study visits.
