The T Level in Accounting is aimed at preparing you for a career as an Assistant Accountant. Assistant Accountants are tasked with supporting qualified accountants within the business and finance function. They are involved in a wide range of accounting tasks, from report preparation to ledger maintenance, bank statements reconciliation and cash flow forecasting.
In the classroom you will be working independently, or in groups to solve accounting problems. You will be researching and designing an innovative solution to a business issue, and then presenting your findings to the group. You’ll also have a chance to practice your new skills in the workplace.
In year one, you will study core units covering a range of topics such as:
- Careers within the accounting professions
- Fundamentals of financial accounting- understanding financial principals, concepts and practices
- Data, analytics and design thinking in the context of business
- Professionalism and ethics
- Regulation in the accounting sector
- Law impacting on accounting professions
In year two, you will study an occupational specialism, Assistant Accountant and you
will learn how to:
- Prepare financial statements
- Analyse business performance and present results
- Provide support to the tax and audit functions
- Produce and analyse a trial balance
- Prepare payroll
