This course provides you with a broad range of core accounting skills, as well as accountancy related business skills and personal skills. The purpose of the course is to offer the foundation accounting knowledge needed to progress to employment or further study in accountancy and finance, alongside business and personal skills that are transferable to any sector and additional business knowledge relevant to accountancy.

- Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
- Principles of Costing
- The Business Environment
This course helps students develop a strong set of transferable employability skills that employers value across many roles:
- Attention to detail – working accurately with data, spotting errors and maintaining high standards
- Time management and organisation – prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and managing routine workloads
- Problem solving – identifying issues, investigating discrepancies and finding practical solutions
- Communication skills – explaining information clearly to colleagues or clients, both verbally and in writing
- Professionalism and reliability – handling sensitive information responsibly and working with integrity
- Confidence with technology – adapting to workplace software and learning new systems efficiently
- Teamwork - collaborating with others and supporting wider business operations
- Adaptability – responding positively to change, new processes and evolving workplace demands
Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:
- Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
- Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
- Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
- Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course
- Your eligibility for a free course will be assessed and confirmed at enrolment.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN
Many of our adult learners pay for their Level 3 and above courses with an Advanced Learner Loan. If a loan is available this is indicated in the course details. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there are no credit checks. You only need to start paying back your Advanced Learner Loan when you are earning more than £25,000 per year.
