A Bury College Supported Internship student has successfully gained employment at digital marketing agency Seek Social.
Joel Bruty, 21, formerly of Woodhey High School, initially took on a work experience placement at Seek Social through his Supported Internship course. As part of the Internship, he was supported by a job coach when on work placement.
He then attended a Kickstart Jobs Fair with a job coach in February, where he learned about a Junior Content Writer position at the same organisation. He applied for the role by completing a written task and attending an interview.
The employer was impressed by the task submitted and offered him the role. He now works there 3.5 days a week.
Joel told us: “As part of my Supported Internship Course, I found jobs to apply for, prepared my CV and received support from my job coaches. Over time, I have developed all types of skills that will help me succeed in places like Seek Social. I have really enjoyed working here.”
Katie Helm, a Supported Internship Job Coach at Bury College, said: “The Bury College Supported Internship team are so happy and proud with the progress Joel has made over the past two years of being on the Steps to Work Supported Internship programmes. He has always been keen to learn and find paid work within the IT and admin industry. In his spare time, he has attended workshops and 1:1 meetings with his Job Coach to help him to find paid employment. We are so proud that he has found a job which meets his aspirations.”
