How Bury College provides ESOL learners with an introduction to life in the UK
ESOL (English as a Second Language) learners from our Step Up to Prospects course recently celebrated their achievements over the last year.
Many of our successful students are now looking to rewarding careers in the health sector after achieving exceptional results.
In recent months, they will have taken advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities in the Health and Digital Centre to help them enhance and develop their skills.
Kamar Machi Alghazalat achieved fantastic grades (D*D* D) in Applied Science and has aspirations to work as a pharmacist and will be studying the subject at the University of Huddersfield. The former Oulder Hill Leadership Academy pupil said: “I am so happy and proud of myself. I want to thank all my tutors for all the skills I’ve gained along the way.”
Grace Van Der Kamp studied a T Level in Health. The former St. Monica’s R.C High School dreams of becoming a Paramedic and achieved a Distinction on her course and is now heading to the University of Central Lancashire to study Paramedic Science. She said: “The course and the College have helped me to become a lot more confident and have prepared for the future.”
Grace also spoke about the facilities she used in the Health and Digital Centre, adding: “The incredible facilities in the Health and Digital Centre gave me experience of working in a realistic hospital environment.”
Nathan believes his time at Bury College has given him the skills and confidence to succeed in the future. He achieved a Triple Distinction Star in Applied Science. The former Bury Grammar School pupil is now off to the University of Bolton to study Physiotherapy. He said: “My time here was amazing. The tutors made me believe that I could reach my end goal of becoming a physiotherapist.”
Iman Ilyas is progressing to study Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University and has aspirations of working in this field. The former Hazel Wood High School pupil was delighted with her results, achieving an A in Health and Social Care. She said: “I am really happy with my results. My time at Bury College has been amazing, and I have become a lot more confident.”
