This top-up degree (Level 6), which is awarded by the University of Cumbria and taught at Bury College University Centre, is aimed at people wanting to work with children, young people and families.

Course validated by: University of Cumbria.

On this Level 6 course you will cover a range of issues affecting children and families in today’s society. This includes:

  • Outdoor Environments and Experiential Learning
  • Enabling Practice and Empowerment for Communities
  • Supporting Health and Wellbeing
  • Employability, Progression and Leadership
  • A Dissertation, practitioner-based independent study.

As part of the Personal/Professional Development modules, you will undertake placements in a variety of settings. This could be paid or voluntary work.

The mandatory placement aspect of the course (50-70 hours a year) allows you to explore a range of roles in the workforce relevant to working with children and families. Through placement you can build professional networks to enhance your future employability.

You will also engage in the Positive Futures Careers Programme, developing key employability skills through a diverse range of activities including work placements, volunteering, employer talks, industry study visits and employment and university fairs.

The majority of students will be able to access a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England to pay their HE Course Fee.

Self-funding students may pay in 3 instalments in September (33%), January (33%) and April (33%).

Course Fee: £8,570.00 per year
