A passion for fitness has turned into a thriving career for a Bury College University Centre graduate.

Megan's journey

Megan arrived at Bury College with a strong interest in sport and a desire to turn that into a profession. Having no formal qualifications in the subject area, Megan decided to first complete two adult courses at the college:

These above mentioned courses allowed Megan to steadily build the skills she needed to progress to the Community Coaching for England HTQ HNC at Bury College University Centre.

During her studies, Megan secured a job at a local gym, where she began putting her new skills into practice: “The knowledge I developed through my studies is really helping me in my role. I’m loving taking what I’ve learnt and applying it in a real-world context”, she said.

As part of her HNC course, Megan had the opportunity to take part in trips and visits, as well as use state-of-the-art facilities, all of which helped her further develop her employability skills. She reflects below:

“We had the privilege, as a class, to visit a local university for an afternoon. We got tours and talks – it was really informative and inspiring. I also got the opportunity to use high-end facilities and equipment that you wouldn’t see every day, which was fascinating.”

Since graduating, Megan has taken on more responsibility in her current role, something which she says is thanks to the time she spent at Bury College.

“So many doors have opened for me thanks to my course, I genuinely wouldn’t be where I am today without it. My tutors were so supportive. I have such gratitude towards them and the time they gave me”, she adds.
