BURY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES T-LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS

Bury College is proud to have been selected by the Department for Education to deliver T-Levels in 2021.

T-Levels are two year high-quality technical qualifications which are alternatives to A Levels and combine classroom theory with practical learning and a work placement. The work industry placement will be for a duration of 45 days and is a unique opportunity for students to gain work-ready experience in an industry setting.

Bury College has been selected by the Government to join a prestigious list and is delighted to be named as one of the further education providers who will deliver T-Levels from 2021. T-Levels are a key part of the Government’s 10 year ambition to overhaul technical education and to give more young people access to high-quality training opportunities in order to progress onto rewarding careers.

Bury College will be offering T-Levels across the following pathways: Construction, Digital, Education and Childcare and Health and Science.

The launch of the T-Level qualifications is planned to coincide with the opening of the new £6.74million STEM (Science, Maths, Engineering and Technology) centre which is also scheduled to open in 2021 at Bury College.

Charlie Deane, Bury College Principal and Chief Executive, said of the announcement, “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the North West providers to deliver T-Levels. These new qualifications will combine classroom theory with practical learning in an industry setting, ensuring that our students are gaining work-ready skills when they complete their Bury College qualification. We are proud to be a part of this new advancement which is set to transform technical education in England.”

T-Levels have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses to meet the needs of different industries and to ensure that students have the skills and knowledge to progress directly into industry.

In preparation for the delivery of T-Level qualifications, Bury College has been running a pilot scheme and working alongside local employers who have been offering 45 day work experience placements to students.

Hopefield Fabrication Ltd, an industry leader in bespoke metal bar tops, over bar glass racks and under counter units in the UK, gave a Bury College Mechanical Engineering student a placement opportunity to develop advanced engineering skills.

Gary McClung, Managing Director of Hopefield Fabrication Ltd said, “The business strongly believes in inspiring the younger generation and believed it was a great opportunity to offer a 45 day placement to an aspiring engineer. This placement benefitted the student by allowing them to develop new skills in an industry setting and increase their confidence. We look forward to working with Bury College in the future.”
