Access courses are for adults who have had significant life experience but have left education with few, if any, qualifications. The BOOST programme will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge in preparation for progression onto other courses including the Access to HE Diploma.

On successful completion of your diploma, you will have the opportunity to either progress to:

  • your desired HE degree programme to gain qualified status, or
  • alternatively enter relevant apprenticeships or employment or promotion.

  • English
  • Maths
  • ICT
  • Study skills - for example Career Planning and Sociology

Through the robust academic training on the course, you will perfect and develop your verbal and written communication skills. You will engage in a wide range of reading and research, through which your critical thinking and analysis skills will develop. Maths skills will be developed throughout the year.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, you will need to pass an initial assessment to determine your English skills.

Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:

  • Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
  • Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
  • Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
  • Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course
