This professional Barbering course aims to provide you with a range of essential practical skills and relevant knowledge, which will lead to employment or further training within the Barbering industry.

The creative skills you will develop include carrying out services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men’s hair, cutting men’s facial hair, drying and finishing men’s hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.

Research from the governing body of the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) said that the hair and beauty industry generated £4.56bn in turnover in 2022-2023. Our range of courses will allow you to gain the skills needed to be a success in this industry.

Study in our new state-of-the-art Hair and Beauty Centre

The ground floor of this new building is home to a 12-bed Media Make-up and special effects studio, a commercial 24-station hair salon and a 24-station make-up studio.

The first floor comprises of a 12-bed Nail Clinic, two 12-bed beauty clinics and a 24-station hair salon. On the third floor, learners are now benefitting from two 24-station hair and barbering salons and both IT and general teaching space to support the specialist facilities.

The topics studied on this course are:

Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
Dry and finish men’s hair
Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
Advise and consult with clients
Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
Assist with shaving service
Reception duties

Prior completion of Level 1 certificate is preferred. However, extensive industry experience may be considered.

Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:

Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN

Many of our adult learners pay for their Level 3 and above courses with an Advanced Learner Loan. If a loan is available this is indicated in the course details. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there are no credit checks. You only need to start paying back your Advanced Learner Loan when you are earning more than £25,000 per year.
