Sports student dreaming of representing Team GB in cycling
Bryn Lawrence is a first-year Level 3 Sports student that is currently on track to have a fantastic cycling career.
Syrona Buchanan-Jones is a former A-level student with a great story to tell and she has gone on to achieve amazing things since leaving the College in 2012.
The former Woodhey High School pupil joined Bury College in 2010 and studied A-levels in Business, English and Law. Throughout her time here, Syrona was involved with several volunteering opportunities and received accolades for her contribution to life at Bury College. After securing her qualifications, Syrona started to forge a career path in the business world.
Talking about her time at Bury College, she was full of praise for the tutors. Syrona said: “I attribute a lot of my success there to the tutors, who mentored me and supported me significantly throughout the two years. They believed in me and encouraged me to push myself, and I look back fondly on my time there because of them. I also developed a passion for the business world that I didn’t have before.”
This passion for business has taken her in several different directions. Her eventful career has seen Syrona get a foothold in several male-orientated industries and work with some of the world’s biggest brands. She added: “I have gone from having my own ed-tech start-up to working for the biggest female-founded NFT project World of Women, heading up our Physical Goods department as Project Manager. I'm currently working directly with Monopoly and House of Harlow and planning an end-of-year gala in Miami.”
When asked what advice she would give to current Bury College students, she replied: “Take a chance on yourself and utilise your passion.”
