Bury College has taken a firm stand against hate crime and racism by raising awareness during Hate Crime Awareness Week, which ran from 12th to 19th October, in addition to supporting the Show Racism the Red Card initiative.
In the season of goodwill, some of the Bury College staff team got together to try and put smiles on the faces of some members of our local community.
Endeavour is a Domestic Abuse Charity which supports all victims of domestic abuse, including all members of the family and their pets. Every year they create a wish tree for their service users with the aim of people supporting the charity and buying a gift. Many of the service users may not get a gift at all if it wasn’t for the charity and its supporters.
This year, the A-level team alongside the Hair and Beauty team joined forces and granted 36 wishes for people from a range of backgrounds and ages. These wishes included a toy car for a 5-year-old boy, some hair curlers for a 14-year-old girl, a biscuit hamper for a 73-year-old man and even a toy for a pet parrot.
Lauren Heyes-Mullan, Assistant Curriculum Manager for Social Sciences at Bury College said: “I have been a trustee for Endeavour Project for five years and every day I am amazed by the wonderful and lifesaving work they do. The generosity of those here at Bury College has been amazing and I am proud to be working with such a supportive and giving team. They will not see the faces of those who open those gifts at Christmas, but I hope they know that they will have made these people’s Christmases a little easier this year. Thank you all!”
