
Bury College recently hosted a Higher Education Fair for its current learners, welcoming representatives from over 20 different universities.
Bury College students have been participating in the Greater Manchester Colleges Skills Competition and have been rewarded for their hard work by finishing in the top two in several areas.
The competition involves students from Colleges throughout Greater Manchester competing against one another across a variety of technical skills competitions.
As part of the series of events, Bury College hosted the Creative Media and Computing sections of the competition with many other students travelling to Colleges throughout Greater Manchester to compete in other subject areas. Check out some of the highlights in the video below.
Our students took home gold in a number of competitions including Fashion and Design, Painting and Decorating, Computing Hackathon, Entry Hair and several Performing Arts areas including Musical Theatre, Music and Dance. Jayden Jones was one of the students that took part. The A Level Computer Science student really enjoyed the competition. The former Philips High School pupil said: “It was a fantastic experience. The challenge we had was fun and a good way to put my knowledge from lessons into practice.”
Andy Tomlinson, Head of School of Performance at Bury College, added: “The incredible atmosphere in the competitions this year is a testament to their value and the unforgettable opportunity they offer our learners to engage, develop, and increase their skills and talent. All our students have done themselves proud, and I'm already looking forward to next year’s competition.”
The GMColleges Skills Competition aims to raise the profile of technical skills in Greater Manchester and offers students, trainees and apprentices a chance to challenge, benchmark and raise their skills by taking part in competitions across a range of sectors. Click here for more information.

T Level student Cameron Taylor turned his placement at Bury BID into a paid summer role, gaining hands-on experience in events and marketing.
Two dedicated apprentices working in a local nursery are proving that it’s never too late to upskill, thanks to the Early Years Level 5 Apprenticeship offered at Bury College.
Our art students have brought a splash of colour and creativity to Bury Hospice with a striking new mural celebrating the spirit of the local community. Painted by students from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, the mural features vibrant hydrangeas and iconic Manchester Bees, symbolising unity, resilience, and the six towns of Bury.
