Elise Aldred, a Bury College Performing Arts student is due to receive the David Essex scholarship to study Musical Theatre at Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama.

To get the scholarship, Elise, 18, had to take part in several classes including dance, singing and acting as well as preparing audition pieces in all three musical theatre disciplines.

From hundreds of applicants, she was invited back to audition for a scholarship where she performed a song, monologue, and a dance.

The former Turton High School student has thrived during her time at Bury College, and she won the Musical Theatre competition as part of the GMCG Skills Competition.

Elise believes that all aspects of life at Bury College have helped her get to this stage: “I have had the most amazing time at Bury College. Throughout the course, I have gained the confidence and skills to do what I love. I could not have done this without my tutors. They have been really helpful and are always there for advice.”

Midlands Academy of Dance & Drama (known as ‘MADD’) is a prestigious and historic drama school based in Nottingham.

The nature of MADD means simply getting there is already a huge achievement, so to get a full scholarship is even more impressive.

Jools Beech, Assistant Curriculum Manager for Arts and Music at Bury College, said: “I am so proud of Elise. She has worked so hard and deserves every bit of success that comes her way.”
