The Prince’s Trust Team 1 Programme in Bury has been named the winners of the Community Impact Award at The Prince’s Trust Awards.
The Team Programme in Bury is made up of 13 unemployed people aged between 16-25 years old and living in Bury. The 12 week personal development programme is an opportunity for individuals to gain new skills and achieve qualifications.
The Bury Team Programme, who are supported by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, who Bury College subcontract funding for, were presented with their royal award for the outstanding contribution they had made to the community.
As part of the Bury Team Programme initiative, the youngsters created a community garden complete with sensory areas which was open to the wider community. As a team they raised an incredible £700 to buy equipment, soil and seeds for the project.
Geoff Harris, from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, said, “What the team have collectively achieved is truly inspiring and the North West Community Impact award is thoroughly deserved. They wanted to create something to benefit the whole community and they’ve done it – amazing effort!”
Bury College are currently funding their third Team Programme in Bury and are subcontracting funding for delivery in Bolton.
