Supported Internship

A former Bury College student has secured employment at a popular Bury pub upon completion of a course which helps learners progress successfully into the world of work.

Taking on duties such as bar work, kitchen work and waitering, 21 year old Michael is enjoying putting the skills be developed during his time at Bury College into practice.

Michael, who lives in Ramsbottom, completed the Bury College Supported Internship course earlier this year. The Supported Internship programme is for those students who are looking to take their first steps into employment and undertake a work placement to gain skills desired by employers.

The former Elmsbank Specialist Arts College pupil started his new job role in August 2016 and is very much enjoying his new challenge.

Michael said, “I am very happy in my new job as I like meeting new people. I very much enjoyed my time at Bury College and the range of work experience opportunities that I received.”

Tammy Davies, Bury College Lecturer in SLDD said of Michael’s career progression, “We are very proud to have supported Michael to secure permanent employment. Throughout the Supported Internship study programme, Michael excelled at his different work placements and developed real life work skills that he transferred into his current employment.”
