HEALTH CARE STUDENT PRESCRIBED CAREER PROGRESSION
An ambitious health care student has achieved her dream job after completing her Bury College studies.
18 year old Shannon Longthorne has secured a role as a Healthcare Assistant working at Fairfield Hospital in Bury and is delighted to be starting her career in the industry she has always felt so passionate about.
Shannon, who lives in Bolton, completed the Bury College Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification before progressing onto the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. During both these qualifications, Shannon believes that she gained the knowledge and hands-on industry experience to progress directly into employment.
Her Level 3 qualification saw Shannon combine a two day a week placement whilst studying for three days at college. Shannon’s industry experience included working at a care home before working on the wards at Fairfield.
Shannon said, “I was so happy to hear the news that I had this new job! My tutor told me about this job so I decided to submit an application and I couldn’t believe it when I was invited in for an interview. My Bury College course has been great as the hands-on ward experience has given me an introduction into working in this industry. I can’t recommend this course highly enough to others.”
The former Little Lever School pupil’s new role will see her based on two wards; a ward which cares for those who are recovering after an operation and a ward for those who are recovering from strokes. Shannon’s duties will be to make sure that these patients are comfortable and clean and to be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice.
Mel Anderton, Curriculum Manager of Health, Dental and Social Care added, “Shannon really embraced this one year Level 3 course and her hard work both in college and on clinical placement have clearly paid off.”
