Two Bury College UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Interactive Media students undertook an exciting work experience placement during one of Bury’s most well-known festivals.
Interactive Media students Yazin Awad and Khalil Mayoh volunteered at the hugely popular Enlighten Bury, a festival of sound and light, an event which welcomes visitors from across Bury and further afield.
During their work experience stint, the students mounted the artwork of Paul Freidlander, a kinetic light sculptor who uses applied sciences to create art. Paul had created a unique harp mechanism which was made up of thick wires and beads and included an engine which vibrated to make the harp move.
As well as working alongside artist Paul, the students were also involved in other elements of the festival. 19 year old Yazin, dedicated his weekend to volunteering at the festival and assisted with meeting and greeting at the Fusiliers Museum as well as dismantling all equipment after the festival.
Yazin said, “My Bury College tutor let me know about the work experience opportunity and I really loved it! I learnt lots of new skills and used equipment I had never used before. I was also given access to all areas of the festival which was great.”
Former Essa Academy pupil Khalil also enjoyed the experience and helping out at different parts of the festival. Khalil added, “I really enjoyed working as part of a team and meeting different artists. My confidence has improved because I was given a lot of responsibilities and the opportunities to try new things.”
