BUSINESSES CHAMPION SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The Bury College Supported Internship programme continues to grow thanks to the consistent support of local businesses.
Since the launch of the Supported Internship programme several years ago, many Bury College students have acquired the hands-on practical skills to grow both personally and professionally. For many learners, this programme is their first taste of working life.
From Retail and Hospitality to Leisure and Administration, individuals have worked in industries which they would one day like to peruse a career in. These placements wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the backing of local employers.
Total Fitness Whitefield is continuing to invest in Supported Internship students. Former Thornleigh Salesian College pupil James Murphy has been completing his placement since December 2017 and is responsible for general customer service duties.
James Claridge, Manager at Total Fitness Whitefield, said of James’s progress, “James has settled in really well to the team. He has enjoyed spending time and working alongside personal trainers. As a company, we have welcomed supported interns for the past three years. It is great to see individuals develop and see what they bring to the team.”
In Bury Town Centre, Rameen Hayat is completing a 10 week placement at Premier Inn, Manchester Bury. 20-year-old Rameen, a former Elms Bank student, is enjoying developing her confidence and teamwork skills.
Ellie Thompson, Duty Manager of Premier Inn Manchester Bury, is proud to support the programme. Ellie said, “We are very keen to support the local community. Rameen has been brilliant during her placement and picked everything up so well. She has been responsible for handling the breakfast service which has involved welcoming guests, setting up tables and handling plates. I would definitely recommend other businesses to get involved in this programme as it is rewarding for both parties.”
Rameen added, “I am enjoying my placement. I like talking to customers and I have made lots of friends.”
