BURY COLLEGE HAIR AND BEAUTY STUDENTS DOUBLE COMPETITION SUCCESS
Bury College Hair and Beauty students triumphed in the Greater Manchester Colleges Group (GMCG) Skills Competition 2018 and claimed the best overall college for the second year running!
Students competed against colleges from across Greater Manchester where they were against a very high standard of competition. The students excelled in all categories and secured a range of first, second and third places.
Students were given the chance to showcase their skills and expertise and create designs to impress the judging panel.
The list of winners included Tatiana Fansi who achieved first place in the Level 3 Beauty award and Amber Hughes who was awarded first place in the Level 1 Beauty award. Over in Hairdressing, Sophie Yeo secured second place in the Level 1 hairdressing competition, Bryony Billington achieved 2nd place in Level 2 commercial blow dry competition and Jade Shaw was placed 3rd in Level 3 colour and cut competition.
First place winner Tatiana Fansi, 22 years old who lives in Salford, was delighted to have won the Level 3 Beauty competition after completing a full body massage. Tatiana has achieved exceptional success since enrolling at Bury College and has completed her Level 1 and Level 2 Beauty qualifications and will now progress onto Bury College University Centre to complete her Foundation Degree in Beauty Management.
Tatiana said of her success, “I was shaking when I heard the news, it was an amazing feeling! Since I have started my Beauty Therapy training, I have learnt so many things and have received great support from all my tutors. In the future I would like my own business.”
The hairdressing students were challenged to create hair themes that represented Manchester. Using her creative skills, Level 1 Hair student Sophie Yeo created a hair-up style which looked like a bee. Sophie was delighted to place second and said of her success, “I didn’t except to come second, I am so happy and it will be great to add this to my CV.”
Bryony Billington, Level 2 Hairdressing student claimed second place for her commercial curled blow dry which was based on suffragettes. Bryony added, “I am extremely happy. It means so much to be named the second best student in Greater Manchester for curly blow drying!”
30 year old Jade impressed judges with her creative style of an undercut which featured a shaved and stencilled coloured bee. The Level 3 student added, “This competition has really improved my confidence and has given me the motivation to caryy on. It’s great to be rewarded for my achievement.”
Students competed against other colleges in GMCG which included Bolton College, Hopwood Hall College, The Manchester College, Stockport College, Tameside College, Trafford College, Salford College, Oldham College and Wigan and Leigh College.
