Lois Samuels achieves her dream career!

Bury College apprenticeships is supporting a mental health care professional to achieve her lifelong career dream as she is appointed as a Team Leader.

Lois Samuels has completed the Level 3 Health and Social Care apprenticeship in order to springboard her career within Mental Health. The 22-year-old has secured the role as Team Leader for Changes Support Limited, a Bury based semi-independent living facility. Here Lois will be supporting the service manager whilst interacting with service users and helping to support the support workers.

Lois said, “If I didn’t have my Level 3 apprenticeship I wouldn’t have got this job. I have had the opportunity to put classroom theory into practice and the support has been there for me at any time.”

The former Philips High School pupil was working as a Support Worker at Turning Point Mental Health Services in Summerseat Bury when she enrolled onto the apprenticeship. This enabled Lois to gain a qualification which could support her career progression.

In November 2016, Lois received a promotion at Turning Point and relocated to the Oldham branch. Here Lois undertook the role as a Project Worker which involved managing a team of support workers and looked after caseloads. The following year, in November 2017, Lois secured a job as a Clinical Support Worker at Prestwich Hospital where she was looking after young people.

Lois has now been offered the opportunity working within a dementia unit caring for 23 residents as a team leader delivering all aspects of care and medication within the home.

Alongside her new role, Lois will undertake a Level 5 Leadership and Management higher apprenticeship where she will learn how to contribute to the development of a strategic plan. This qualification will support Lois’s long-term career goal of having her own 24 hour support service day care which can facilitate all needs.
