COLLEGE COURSE LEADS TO ENGINEERING CAREERS
A duo of aspiring engineers are on track to achieve their career dreams after securing jobs at a specialist Bury based business.
Max Yates and Tom Frankland completed their Bury College Engineering diplomas this summer and were delighted to secure full-time permanent contracts at Nu-Form Fire UK, one of the country’s leading independent fire protection contractors.
The company, based on Manchester Road, approached Bury College earlier in the year, with the opportunity of awarding two students with a Traineeship position in Project Management. Nu-Form Fire UK were looking for two highly driven and passionate individuals to join their team of industry experts. After a vigorous application process, former Haslingden High School pupil Max and former Thornleigh Salesian College pupil Tom were delighted to be the chosen candidates.
During their four year Traineeship, the pair will learn all about the design of fire suppression systems for commercial and industrial properties. They will develop skills in project management and gain an understanding of detailed engineering design, hydraulic calculations and site survey skills.
Nu-Form Fire UK Managing Director David Carswell said, “Nu-Form Fire UK is proud to have homegrown talented staff, most of our team are long serving employees who have progressed their careers within the company. Our industry presents us with a skills shortage, by employing recent college graduates, we are taking a step towards closing the skills gap whilst providing opportunities to young individuals. This also gives us the opportunity to train and shape these individuals to deliver the high standards that our company expects.”
18 year old Max from Tottington is delighted to have been given this opportunity, “I was so happy to find out I had been chosen for the job. I am really enjoying it and the training we have received so far has been great. We have spent two weeks on-site learning about different sprinkler systems and we have also spent time with our mentors who themselves have nearly 20 years’ experience.”
19 year old Tom from Bolton is equally as proud, “This job is a great opportunity for us to take the first steps into the Engineering industry. I am looking forward to progressing my career through this company. My time at Bury College was great and the training I received really prepared me for this job.”
