MULTILINGUAL STUDENT NARRATES NEW CHAPTER
A highly driven multilingual Bury College student has secured a place at the renowned University of East Anglia (UEA) - an institution recognised for its world leading research.
Sylwia Gorska started at Bury College in 2012 when she enrolled onto the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme. Through commitment and dedication to her studies, Slywia progressed directly onto the Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma - Education and Humanities pathway. This became her gateway into higher education.
Sylwia was delighted to be accepted at UEA to study for BA Honours in Modern Languages. She will read Japanese in the Centre for Japanese Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Talented Slywia said, “My goal has always been to go to university, but in order to do this I need to improve my English and needed supporting with my writing. My tutors at Bury College really believed in me and encouraged me to achieve my ambitions. I was overwhelmed to be accepted at my first choice university.”
The four-year Japanese course includes one year abroad which will allow Sylwia to put her studies into context when she lives in Japan.
Sylwia added, “The modules I studied on my Access course have really prepared me for my next step. I have gained skills in academic writing and my confidence has improved. I would definitely recommend Bury College, the tutors are really friendly and approachable.”
Sylwia is looking forward to starting her university journey and pursuing her long-term career goal of working in the Japanese Art and Music industry and promoting the Japanese culture.
