COLLEGE CLAIMS AOC BEACON AWARD
Bury College tutors have been recognised for their exceptional teaching practices during this year’s prestigious AoC Beacon Awards.
Bury College New Horizons provision, a unique Bury College Foundation studies course, were delighted to receive the Commended Certificate in the Support for Students category. Recognised as an awards ceremony which celebrates the best and most innovative practices among UK further education (FE) colleges, the AoC Beacon Awards highlights excellence within the FE sector.
Proud to be a recipient of such a distinguished award, Deborah O’Brien, Bury College Head of Foundation Studies, commented, “As a college we are so proud of the hard work which we do with young people with complex additional needs and the great outcomes our learners achieve.”
New Horizons is a specialist provision for students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and Autism. It is designed to help every student achieve their full potential which is done through a combination of rigorous assessment, bespoke timetabling and person centred planning.
Students on the New Horizons course benefit from multi-sensory learning and community based activities. Learners are encouraged to learn through interaction and build strong relationships with caring and committed staff.
