ADULT LEARNERS CELEBRATE UNIVERSITY PROGRESSION

A group of ambitious adult learners are celebrating securing places at a range of top universities upon completion of their Access programme at Bury College.

Access Diplomas equip individuals with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to boost their career opportunities, and every year demand for these courses continues to rise. Many people choose an Access programme as their preferred route back into education as it gives them the chance to gain a recognised qualification and increase their employment opportunities.

This year’s Access to Higher Education Diploma students are delighted to have secured their qualifications and in turn achieve their lifelong aspirations of progressing onto university after undertaking the Education and Humanities pathway at Bury College. These dedicated learners are now looking forward to progressing onto a range of institutions and realising their career dreams.

Robert Januszczyk was working part-time within the Hospitality industry and wanted a career change. Robert, who is multilingual in English, Polish, Russian and Swedish, is proud to have secured a place at the University of Central Lancashire to study English Language and Linguistics and will continue to work towards his career goal of being a Translator.

20-year-old Robert from Bury said, “This Access course has given me the chance to return to education, and I like the fact that I am surrounded by likeminded people in a similar situation. The Access teaching staff are committed to making sure all students achieve their dreams by pushing them to use their full potential.”

Chloe Hesketh is also delighted to be progressing onto university after she was made redundant in 2017. 30-year-old Chloe enrolled onto the Level 2 Access programme before progressing onto the Level 3 programme. Chloe, who lives in Whitefield, will now move onto the University of Bolton to study Creative Writing.

Chloe said, “The support I have received on my Level 2 and 3 Access programmes has been amazing. The tutors are behind you every step of the way and they really want you to succeed. I have enjoyed all the topics that we have covered, and my knowledge has really grown.”

Other progression routes include Bury College University Centre, Lancaster University and the University of Nottingham – with students studying for a range of subjects including with Working with Children and Families, Creative Writing, and Archaeology.
