PRISON OFFICERS TALK CAREERS WITH PUBLIC SERVICES STUDENTS
Public Services students were paid a visit by prison officers from HMP Liverpool where they discussed the range of employment opportunities available within the prison service.
Level 2 and 3 students enjoyed a presentation which gave them an insight into prison life, prison work and the different careers available. Learners also enjoyed meeting sniffer dog Ted and finding out all about the important part prison dogs play within prisons.
The guest speakers also offered students advice regarding training, workload and salaries and the progression opportunities available once in the service.
Christopher Reid, Bury College lecturer in Public Services said, “I firmly believe these types of enrichment activities add real value to the Students experience whilst on the Public Services course. Many of the students have yet to decide which career path they intend to go down, these visits allow students to make informed choices about which public service they would like to join.”
Patrick Clarke, Level 3 Public Services student said, “This visit really opened my eyes to the employment opportunities that are available within the prison service.”
