PUBLIC SERVICES STUDENTS SECURE POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS

Public Services students at GMP

Bury College Public Services students have achieved their career ambitions after securing life changing jobs working for Greater Manchester Police.

Two ambitious learners are now in uniform and making a difference to the community as they serve as police officers in the Greater Manchester area. Ellie Caveney and Farhan Mohammed are delighted to have been successful in their police application and to have gained job roles that they have worked so hard to achieve.

Earlier in the academic year, both Ellie and Farhan, along with 25 of their classmates, visited Greater Manchester Police Headquarters to attend a career-enhancing presentation from two police officers who spoke about their roles and their experiences as serving officers. Feeling inspired by their talk, the students began the application process. Through support from their dedicated tutors, which involved setting-up mock interviews and role play exercises, the duo were delighted to be successful in the application process and be offered employment.

Ellie, who is a former The Blue Coat School pupil, said, “I am so proud to have secured a job as a police officer for Greater Manchester Police. My Bury College tutors were such an amazing help to me during the whole process of selection. During the application process they were always there to support me when filling in my application form and reassured me when I felt concerned. I am so excited for my future career within the Police.”

Farhan Mohammed, who is a former Kingsway Park High School pupil, is delighted to be working as a Constable on the front line responding to 999 calls and patrolling the local area. Farhan said, “My time at Bury College was fantastic. I really enjoyed the Public Services course, the tutors were really supportive and it provided me with a good stepping stone to progressing onto the job. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to pursue a career within the Public Services sector.”

Chris Reid, Bury College Assistant Curriculum Manager for Public Services, “The value and significance of such visits allows the students the opportunity to make an informed choice on the next stage in their future careers. Attending recruitment events gives the students a deeper understanding of the fantastic career opportunities available across the uniformed Public Services. It is important that students gain an insight of the standards expected within the sector. Within the department we pride ourselves on bringing public services careers to life by providing these value-added experiences.”

The Bury College Public Services course develops an understanding of the practical and work-related skills needed to prepare you for a career in a range of uniformed services which include the Emergency Services, Armed Forces, Police Force, Fire Services and Armed Services.
