APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMES CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULT LEARNERS

An ambitious adult learner has undertaken an apprenticeship programme to help springboard her career and achieve a long-term career goal.

Salma Choukri is a 32-year-old mother who has always dreamed of being a Nursery Practitioner. Salma chose the apprenticeship route so she could benefit from earning a wage whilst gaining experience and a recognised qualification.

Apprenticeships are a great option for individuals of all ages and provides an opportunity to train for a new career whilst receiving a wage or achieving a higher-level qualification to progress in their industry.

Salma is currently completing the Level 3 Early Years Educator at Swans Care and Education and is responsible for looking after children, planning activities and completing observations and assessments.

Salma said, “Completing an apprenticeship has been really beneficial and I have gained so many new skills. Earning money whilst studying has meant that I can support my family which has been an amazing opportunity for me. My employer and Bury College Learning and Skills Coach have been so supportive and they have encouraged me to better myself and be the best I can be.”

Nicola Whitby, Manager at Swans Care and Education based in Bury, is proud to recruit apprentices. Nicola said, “Apprenticeship programmes are a great way to train up qualified staff and build on our existing workforce. Bury College have been on-hand throughout the recruitment process and have always ensured that myself and my apprentices have been well supported.”
