LOCAL BARBERING STUDENT WINS FIRST PLACE IN PRESTIGIOUS AHT COMPETITION

A Bury College Barbering student, Devan Alleyne, has recently found success in this year’s Association of Hairdressers and Therapists Barbering competition, and was awarded first place. This is an amazing achievement for the Level 2 student, who submitted an online entry. For the competition, he cut a skin fade with a number eight on top, using his friend as a model.

The former Philips High School student was allowed to choose any haircut involving traditional barbering tapering skills, and was asked to submit before and after photos of the front, back, and sides. He was nominated by his tutors because he was excelling in his course, and worked independently on his submission in his free time.

Devan enjoyed the process of planning and executing his entry, and found the competition “good fun”. He said, “Winning was a big shock. I was not expecting to come first.”

Devan has now finished his Level 2 course, and is working in Trims Barbershop. He plans on continuing to develop the skills he learnt at college while in employment. In the future, he would love to be able to take his job abroad, and become a cruise ship barber.
