BURY COLLEGE CELEBRATES SPORTING SUPERSTARS

From an England Netballer to a British Champion Kickboxer, the Bury College Sports department is celebrating the exceptional achievements of their sporting superstars.

Year on year, Bury College Sports courses boast an elite profile of inspirational sports men and women who are using their talents to achieve their sporting ambitions. Through hard work, dedication and commitment, our students successfully commit to their studies as well as their sports activities in order to secure their career dreams.

Aidan Lawrence is British Cycler and has been committed to the sport from the age of just 8 years old. The former Kearsley Academy pupil specialises in road and track cycling and has participated in a range of national races across the world including a high-profile competition in Switzerland.

Aidan, who is studying Applied Level 3 Sport, A Level Sociology and A Level English Language said, “I am really happy to be representing my country. My Bury College course is great, the facilities are really good and I have learnt a lot about different fitness components.”

Talented Berri Neil is an England Women’s Netballer who secured her under 17s England Cap at just 14 years of age and her Senior England Cap aged 16. The former Parrenthorn High School pupil plays the Goal Attack, Goal Shooter and Wing Attack positions and has competed in a range of England competitions touring Australia, New Zealand, Barbados and Europe.

The Level 3 Sport Diploma student said, “I am so proud to be playing for the England Netball team. I have had the opportunity to tour the world and compete in competitions. My Bury College tutors have been really supportive.”

National swimming champion Ewan Wilson has competed in national competitions, has been the Captain for Lancashire and was selected for the England World School Games. Ewan, who is completing the Level 3 Sport qualification, believes that his proudest moment to date was securing second place for his country in the 200m Butterfly during the British National Championship in Sheffield.

The former Oasis Academy pupil said, “I can’t recommend Bury College enough, my tutors have been so supportive and there is a great balance between my studies and my swimming commitments.”

Scarlett Robinson kickboxed from the age to 10 to 15 years old and proudly won the British Champions Under 50kg competition in Birmingham. From the age of 9, Scarlett discovered a love for Motorcycling and in 2020 Scarlett secured fifth place in the British Super Motor Championship where she competed against 30 male athletes.

The former Woodhey High School pupil who is studying Level 3 Sport said, “I am so proud of all that I have achieved. I really like the practical elements of my Bury College Sport course and learning all about nutrition as it really helps me with my training.”
