You will study, explore and discuss current issues nationally and globally in relation to the behaviour of economic agents in the real world, especially the theoretical workings of the free market. You will be exploring imperfections and market failures, and the potential impacts and limitations of a variety of governmental policies and approaches.

Economics is ideal to combine with traditional subjects such as Mathematics and is a springboard to a wide range of analytical based careers.

The topics studied on this course are:

  • Microeconomics - looks at individual markets to discover how prices are set and the impact of decision making by consumers, businesses and the Government
  • Macroeconomics - covers how overall economies operate. Many of the topics are discussed daily in the news, for example unemployment, inflation, interest rates, imports/ exports, exchange rates and globalisation

Assessment is 100% exam including synoptic assessment.

On completion of this course you may progress onto a degree. Please note that some universities stipulate A-level Mathematics as a subject requirement for a degree in Economics. Economics can lead to a number of careers such as:

  • Accounting
  • Banking and Finance
  • Business Management
  • Economist
  • Journalism
  • Politics

You will need to be analytical as diagrams are often used to explain and analyse theory. You will also have the opportunity to attend specialist sixth form conferences at local universities for which there may be an additional charge.

  • Commitment
