This course is a pre-access to HE pathway. There are two options to choose from:

Sociology Pathway

Recommended for learners who want to progress onto L3 Access to HE (social sciences).

Health Pathway

Recommended for learners who want to progress onto L3 Access to HE (Health).

Both pathways provides learners with the fantastic opportunity to develop their fundamental knowledge and skills required to progress onto the access course. Through the combination of taught units and assignments, learners will develop their digital skills, subject understanding and their approach towards healthy living styles.

Sociology Pathway:

Introduction to a Healthy Lifestyle: This unit focuses on the factors that contribute towards healthy living styles including mental health, exercise, nutrition, work life balance, social interaction etc and the negative impact of choices including the effects of alcohol, drugs and smoking on long term health outcomes. It will provide learners with an opportunity to reflect on their choices and devise an action plan for their own health and well-being.

Introduction to Sociology: This unit provides a broad overview of the sociological topics like inequality, education, crime and deviance etc and sociological theories like Marxism, feminism, etc to understand individuals, families and even communities. Through independent study, learners will carry out research on a sociological topic of their choice and show their understanding of the variety of research methods.

Word processing assignment: Through a combination of tasks assigned, learners will develop their essential IT and digital skills by using word processing software. In this unit, students will learn to create, structure, format, and edit documents in line with the academic conventions.

Health Pathway:

Introduction to a Healthy Lifestyle: This unit focuses on the factors that contribute towards healthy living styles including mental health, exercise, nutrition, work life balance, social interaction etc and the negative impact of choices including the effects of alcohol, drugs and smoking on long term health outcomes. It will provide learners with an opportunity to reflect on their choices and devise an action plan for their own health and well-being.

Human Physiology for Health Care: This unit primarily focuses to give awareness of the organisation of the human body with special emphasis on structure, function and interrelationship of major body systems and their malfunctions. Learners will also be able to carry out routine measurements of the body like temperature, pulse rate, height, weight etc.

Word processing assignment: Through a combination of tasks assigned, learners will develop their essential IT and digital skills by using word processing software. In this unit, students will learn to create, structure, format, and edit documents in line with the academic conventions.

Assessment methods will be in the form of assignments which will need to be submitted by a given deadline. Assignments will be word processed therefore basic M/S words skills are needed.

A good understanding of the English Language, both verbally and written. Preferably, but not essential, a qualification in English (For example: FS/GCSE). Your acceptance to the course will be dependent on an initial assessment.

Some courses are free for eligible learners, this is shown in the course details. You may be eligible for a free course if you are:

  • Unemployed and in receipt of an income-based benefit (for example JSA, ESA or Universal Credit)
  • Employed and earning less than the low-income threshold
  • Studying for your first full Level 2 qualification on an eligible legal entitlement course
  • Aged 19-23 and studying for your first full Level 3 qualification or on an eligible legal entitlement course
  • Your eligibility for a free course will be assessed and confirmed at enrolment.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN

Many of our adult learners pay for their Level 3 and above courses with an Advanced Learner Loan. If a loan is available this is indicated in the course details. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there are no credit checks. You only need to start paying back your Advanced Learner Loan when you are earning more than £25,000 per year.
